Parent Support – PFSA

What is a PFSA?

At Selworthy School, our Parent and Family Support Adviser (PFSA) works exclusively with our learners and their families, providing dedicated, personalised support within our school community.

The PFSA works closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to help strengthen children’s wellbeing, engagement and learning. By building positive relationships with families, the PFSA helps ensure that every child can access the support they need to thrive.

The core purpose of the PFSA role at Selworthy School is to offer early help when a child or family may benefit from additional guidance. This means identifying challenges at an early stage and working together to remove barriers before they become bigger difficulties. The PFSA provides practical advice, emotional support and signposting to services, all aimed at helping families feel confident, connected and supported.

Aims of a PFSA

PFSAs are here to:

  • Support parents and carers in a friendly, non‑judgemental way

  • Strengthen communication between home and school

  • Improve pupil attendance, engagement and achievement

  • Ensure families are aware of services and agencies that can offer further help

  • Encourage parents and carers to take an active role in their child’s education and school community

What a PFSA Can Offer

Our PFSA provides:

  • Confidential, flexible support tailored to your family’s needs

  • Advice and guidance on a wide range of issues affecting children and young people

  • Help accessing additional services, including specialist support where needed

  • Opportunities to meet other parents and carers through regular events, workshops and drop‑ins
