Welcome to Grove 1 Class!

Grove 1 is a vibrant Sixth Form class at Selworthy School, supporting learners from Year 12 to Year 14. Our focus is on both academic achievement and the development of essential life skills to prepare our students for adulthood. We currently have 8 learners, each following a personalised pathway. Some are working towards qualifications in English, Maths, Employability and Vocational Studies. Alongside their academic learning, all students take part in a wide range of activities designed to build independence, confidence and social communication skills.

As part of our preparation for adulthood, we run a weekly Sixth Form Spuds Enterprise, where learners plan, prepare and sell jacket potatoes to staff. Each week, we visit the local shop to buy ingredients, giving learners valuable experience in budgeting, shopping and making healthy choices. We also enjoy our extended snack sessions, where learners use the kitchen in our independent living flat to prepare their own snacks using different appliances—building practical skills in a fun and engaging way. Each day, we watch Newsround together and discuss current events, helping learners to develop their understanding of the world around them and share their thoughts and opinions.

Grove 1 is a supportive and inclusive environment where every learner is encouraged to thrive and prepare for life beyond Selworthy.
